What is Pilates?

Pilates is a low impact form of exercise suitable for all ages and you don't need to be experienced to join the class as we have an excellent tutor with lots of experience. Pilates exercises all the major muscle groups within the body and is particularly good at improving balance and coordination, muscle tone and strength, joint mobility and helps you to breathe more easily.

Osteopaths, physiotherapists and general health practitioners recommend Pilates as one of the most effective forms of exercise. The exercises are predominately mat based which mean that you will need to be able to get up and down off the floor on your own and be comfortable lying on the mat for most of the hourly session. A chair can be provided if you need one.

You will need to bring your own Pilates/Yoga exercise mat and if you would like them, a small towel or cushion to rest your head on and a small bottle of water are also useful.

The class is held on Tuesday afternoons. Medbourne is behind Shenley Church End between Grange Farm and Shenley Wood, and just half a mile from the Shenley Wood Retirement Village.

Before joining the group new members will be asked to inform the tutor of any health issues in order to ensure that Pilates is an appropriate and beneficial exercise for them.
