Pilates sessions are here. This is an opportunity for you to join us for some regular exercises.
If you are interested in joining this group please contact the Group Coordinator (Yvonne Ashmore, pilates@mku3a.org) in the first instance for class information and fee. There is a limit of the group size. Ideally new members will join the group at the beginning of each new term. Members will pay the fee for the whole term in advance in order to cover the cost of the venue hire charge and tutor fee.
Most of the exercises are mat-based which means you will need to be able
to get up and down off the floor and be comfortable lying on the mat for most of the hourly session. You will need to bring your own Pilates/Yoga exercise mat each week. A small towel or cushion to rest your head on and a small bottle of water are also useful.
Please Note
Before joining the group, new members will be asked to inform the tutor of any health issues and to ensure that Pilates is an appropriate and beneficial exercise for them. This group has been running for several years, and is not suitable for complete beginners.
What is Pilates?
Pilates systematically exercises all the major muscle groups within the body. This approach helps to address muscular imbalances through a range of exercises. There are many benefits to this method of which many students begin to feel from the very first session; notably feeling calmer, joints more mobile, greater flexibility, progressive muscular tone and strength. These exercises also stimulate the nervous system which in turn leads to better balance and co-ordination. Ultimately posture improves restoring physical and mental harmony.
It is this holistic approach that sets Pilates apart from many other forms of exercise. Osteopaths, physiotherapists and general practitioners recommend Pilates as one of the most effective forms of exercise. Pilates can be beneficial for just about everyone, regardless of age and fitness level.
