The aim of the philosophy group is to help members think more clearly, and look at the underlying reasons behind daily decisions and beliefs.
We are currently proposing to discuss questions such as: Where do our values, morals and ethical views come from? Do we have free will or is our behaviour predetermined? What should be the limits to freedom in a civilized society? Do ‘market forces’ justify our actions, and if not what should we rely on? Does the science of evolution tell us how we should behave and how we may construct successful societies?
We are also interested in learning about the history of philosophy. These are just some of the questions for discussion, but what questions would you like to put forward?
No previous knowledge of philosophy or a particular set of beliefs is assumed or required. The group will decide the topics covered.
