Royal Albert Hall will be reconfigured to host the production of CORTEO with a centrally located stage splitting the hall in two halves with each half of the audience facing each other, giving a unique perspective of the show and a performer’s eye view of the audience.
Corteo which means cortege in Italian, is a joyous procession, a festival parade imagined by a clown.
The clown’s dreamlike imagination pictures he own funeral taking place in a carnival atmosphere, watched over by caring angels. Juxtaposing the large and the small, the ridiculous with the tragic and the magic of perfection with the charm of imperfection the show highlights the strength and fragility of the clown, as well as his wisdom and kindness.
The set curtains, which are inspired by the Eiffel Tower, and the central curtains which were hand painted, give a grandiose feel to the stage.
It is the 29th year that RAH has welcomed Cirque du Soleil. It’s director of programming Matt Todd added: “This is the first time that we have been able to reconfigure the Hall like this, dramatically and uniquely changing the whole perspective within the auditorium. It is wonderful for the Hall to be used in this way and will without doubt be on of Cirque du Soleil’s most extraordinary performances.”
The show is 2hours and 5 mins with a 25mins interval
